Hi there mancmonkey, congratulations mate
Is it a runner & are you gonna return her to her former glory?
Been sat in a garage, since 1983,when the old man died, his wife has had it mot'd every year since, sometimes only 3 miles in 12 months, where it went to and from the garage. idea is to keep it original. only got it on Monday, so she has been relocated and fluids dropped and changed, fresh fuel and a jump start and off she purred. (although very rich on the carb, not had a look yet, are they auto choke?). oh and all the scratches are from where the old lady tried to clean it last week by dragging a mop over it!!!!
Oh my god i was beginning to loose faith in here, FINALLY another E21 bloke
Let me tell you straight up, my ride was in 10.000.000 times worse condition than this one looks to be. They do tend to rust a bit. You need to lift up the carpets, and check the foot rest / jack stands in the front, side sills, and the boot around the inner arches. Nothing weird or hard to fix though.
The M10 is neigh destructable so you can have a crackin´ little motor there for many many years. It looks too sharp and straight to make a "hooligan" like mine, but if you´d fancy a bit more oomph enginewise i could recommend installing a M42 in it. Light nimble and with plenty of power.
Anyway, let us know what you end up doing with the car mate, and a big congratulations it is the best and funniest car in the world to drive, it handles extremly well on small twisty roads. Cheers
Alot of people can say that they bought their dream car. Not alot of people can say they build it..
Sounds good, going to keep it as original as possible, might be looking for some advice as we go through though!!, never done a BMW before, but i guess this is a good simple place to start, first step is to clean up the carb, its always been garaged so rust is at a minimum, but its going for MOT on Wednesday so i will no more after that. Cheers
What do I reckon? I reckon you should sell me that Mk1 Astra immediately. Shame its a boggo car, if its got a good shell all the hard work is done. spend money luxing it up, leather, sorted suspension and rims, more cc etc then it will be worth a few quid. No one wants fluffy seats and pop pop or diesel engines.... its not cool.
