Guess I better start a new thread for my E34 Alpina B10 3.5
Here is a pic of her the day I got her home.
Got a nice pic featured in the August issue of PBMW too!
My aim is to keep this car in as near mint a condition as I possibly can.
It has a fine pedigree with a folder full of documentation!
To summarise the car for those that are interested, it's a 1989 model which left the factory as an auto however it was converted to manual by me whilst it was in my buddy Freds (@e28) ownership. It is a genuine Sytner built car complete with build plaque.
There are 28 stamps in the service book and she currently sits on 173k, although the engine was fully rebuilt around 8k ago and runs like new!
The paint is truly excellent, having undergone a recent respray which also included many new replacement parts and all badges, I also have receipts receipts for lots of new trims etc.
The floors and sills have all been replaced and tidied up, and for a little insurance the E34s problematic sunroof drains have been re-routed to come out behind the splash-guards instead of inside the front wings where the alow rot to set in! The fuel filler area, which is also a known E34 weak spot has been repaired using lead before a nice repaint so that should last for ever!!! The cam cover and inlet manifold are black on the Alpina version of the M30 engine and as the were a little tired they also got repainted with black crinkle effect paint too.
The car pulls incredibly well for a 26 year old, managing sub 7 secs to 62mph.
As said above the engine only has around 8k on it. It's benefited from new cam followers, timing chain, and also had a new steering box @138k and a new block and pistons in 2003 at 165k. Compression is 160-170 across all cylinders which is a good 10-20psi higher than most 535i's.
The exhaust system was totally rotted out and a replacement from Alpina would have been circa 2k but instead the car now has a full stainless system including manifolds custom manufactured by the guys over at Fritz Bitz at a cost of around £1800, so cheaper however improves performance and will last forever!
The fuel lines and fuel tank vent pipes were replaced by me last year as you could smell fuel when at the rear of the car, again another E34 trait!
The car is still on it's correct springs I believe but i'm not too sure on the shocks, she handles well but I have plans for A full B12 kit, much like I treated my E31 to . She also has Powerflex subframe and arb bushes, as well as recent droplinks and pitman arms.
The interior is in lovely condition and has the Alpina clocks and the Momo steering wheel just like it should!. The fully electric seats even work like new!!!
There are a couple of things that do need sorting such as the A/C does not work and the blower fan can squeak at times. The speedo sensor connector has fallen apart so the connection isn't the best causing the needle to bounce about a bit sometimes and occasionally stop working altogether.
The diff which is an LSD has a very small weep but still locks brilliantly, just needs an output shaft seal.
The check control and the mileage display on the clocks has an intermittent fault which causes it to be dim and unreadable on occasion so that will need looking into.
So all in all a beauty of a car with a couple of little things to be getting on with!
thanks for looking
