Sort of a light project, maintaining any older car always is, so I will post up my work and progress here.
AS some of you will know I only just got my 520i recently and so far have loved driving her.
Cracking engine, pulls well and has an amazing sound for a stock engine.
Gearbox is smooth and selects gears easily
and no noises that shouldn't be there.
Only thing I think needs doing is there is a little play in the steering before the wheels turn, I think worn bushes or track rod ends but will investigate this week.
I posted up some photos of the car in the Newbie forum which I will link here.
Today I had a little play and fitted a new K&N air filter in place of the original style paper one, Was fairly dirty. Felt the difference immediately, engine picks up quicker and just seems to run smoother and be a bit more willing to please.
I am going to let the Redex fuel system cleaner do its work from the tank, Use this on all my cars with good results, before doing a full engine service.
I also Drained and re filled the washer bottle as the water in there smelled like sick. When I drained it it had lots of bits floating in the water which is what I think has clogged up the passenger side jet. I am going to get that cleaned out tomorrow with the help of a bit of compressed air and possibly some new washer tubing. At least the drivers side works well, Had one car that was the other way around and it was a nightmare, and no longer makes you think you are at a teenage party.
I will also be getting some paint work done on the rear passenger door as some low life keyed the car today and it has gone down to primer so it was surely deliberate. Some people?
I will also be giving the car a face lift with some new lights front and back and giving her a good wash, wax and valet.
I will also be replacing the battery in the key as the bulb still works, seen a flicker of life when the button was pressed but the current battery is dead.
The final thing that will happen fairly soon is two new tyres, One to replace the flat in the boot which due to the shape is beyond saving and the low tread tyre on the front. The odd tyre out on the car will then be made into the spare.
Will post up the photos of the work as and when it happens.
As you can see I try to take good care of my cars and so far have really enjoyed working on the BMW, So much space and everything is so well designed and made.
I hope you guys like the pics and updates.
