    I have everything that I need to assemple the 'bottom end' now, so if given the chance that is what I will be doing this weekend!

    Next big buy is the Head gasket and the ARP head studs!

    Well this weekend I got into the workshop and made a good start on the rebuild!

    A few pictures along the way to illustrate the job!

    Here you can see that the top of the piston is dished. This is what gives the 8.5:1 ratio as opposed to the standard flat-topped 328i piston which gives 10.5:1

    Unfortunately, One of the Piston rings broke in half! No idea why it literally fell into two pieces, I wasn't even applying any force to it! Weird! Still rather it happened now than when running!

    Due to the broken ring, I was unable to fit the piston to cylinder 1 but I have ordered another piston set. Hopefully that will be here some time this week at which point I can get it popped in then think about reinstalling the oil baffle plate and oil pump!

    That, all being well will be Saturdays job!

    Not a particularly exciting update but an update nonetheless!

    I have for a while wanted to have a method by which to disable the subwoofers in the boot entirely if I wanted to. I could have used any old rocker switch from Maplins, but I much prefer to have something that looks a little more OEM so I found this!

    I believe it is used on some of the Harmon-Kardon setups to change the sound in some way, I'm not really sure, I'm sure that someone out there will know!

    Anyhow, it was impossible to find one of these anywhere in the UK, at least when I was looking so I had to get one from the States! Infact it came with the whole console and the little cubby tray too, not that it was any use of course, being from a left hand drive model! So anyway, I paid ridiculously over the odds for this switch but at least I have the one that I wanted!

    I had to modify it a bit as I wanted the small speaker picture to be off and the large speaker picture to be on, Sods law it's the other way round! Easily solved however by disassembling the switch carefully and popping the rocker switch out of the housing and popping it back in the other way round!

    All that I needed to do to make it function how I wanted was to route the remote signal cable from the head unit through the switch to the amp, the cable that tells the amp to turn on or off when the ignition is turned on or off!

    Looking at these pictures has made me realise that I need to get the cotton buds out and clean the switch for my rag top!

    Nice. I can only get time to read the last few pages and what a good read. Handy as that's the colour interior I want to get my hands on from a 4 door, and nice pics on the seat back mend. I have only ever built 2 engines bearings up and they were CVH's which were like lego really. The 635 will get a built engine but I have to build a cave first. The only thing that bothers me with it is that I fear that I'd only be able to source most of the upgraded bits from the states and anytime i've imported stuff from there it costs stupid amounts in fees. Do you find upgraded supplies are well catered for in the UK now or are you finding that you keep ending up on US sites?
    One site I ordered from was priced in pound notes and turned out to be trickery and actually based in the states. In saying all that, if I lived next door to Ireland engineering, I'd be in debt constantly!

    To be honest mate, I am finding that there is a wealth of parts out there both standard and upgraded!

    Also owning the Alpinan B10 I find that parts for that engine which is obviusly what yours also shares are so easy to find! Things like ARP bolts and such tend to come from the States but there are plenty of UK based authorised dealers out there that it doesn't really seem to be an issue!

    It's a lovely colour interior in my opinion and I find it really compliments the green! I had a full interior for a 4 door a couple of years back but I fitted it to a saloon that I was shifting on to make it look a bit more appealing! Shame really, but if I come across anything then I'll let you know!
