Hi all, for those I didn't meet at Santa Pod this year my name is Matt. I've been on here for a while as a reader and occasional contributor and have decided to post up my project here for everyone to see and comment from (and maybe even learn from). This is my first BMW and I've done a lot of learning so far. I converted my faith from Honda's for this and I'm glad I did!
This is what it currently looks like:
I originally bought the car in March 2010 for a tidy sum. It was only supposed to be temporary as my Honda Civic had been involved in an accident. After driving this for a while though I decided to fix and sell the Civic and keep the BMW!
The previous owner's work wasn't the best so I have to correct scratches, rust and the awful back box. I've already had to replace a blown manifold (common problem on the M42 lump) and replace the clutch thanks to the release bearing. He did have some taste though as M3 rear lights have already been installed and the car has lowering springs (which will do for now). The car also had the full tool kit, torch, warning triangle and first aid kit.
This is how it looked when I bought it:
Obviously those awful eye brows had to come off, and that terrible M badge had to be removed.
So as soon as I had the time I removed them and gave it a clean:
