1988 E30 325i SE Coupe restoration thread - Project Looy.....

I am sure that some of you will remember my old E30 project that I have owned for some years now, it has been kept in storage for a couple of years now but with the recent departure of my M3 and the funds now being available it seemed like as good a time as any to pull the sheets of her and have a look around.. Kinda wish I hadn't now, but here are some pictures that I have taken of the state of the inner panels.

This is how she was when I first had her...

And now I have started to take her apart and have a look around..

    And the holes so far....

I have a feeling that this is going to be a long project.

So I have ordered some more parts for this restoration, I have decided that I am going to replace or repair everything that has any rust attached to it now as I would not be happy with another and it's my E30. If I am honest, it is worse than I had remembered, but not as bad as it could be - it needs quite a bit doing to it and some people would even break it for spares and be done, but she is nearly 25 years old and needs some TLC.

So far I have bought/borrowed/stolen or ordered.

    2 Front wings
    2 sills
    2 Rear arches
2 Inner arches (the outside bits, the rest will be patched)
    Battery tray
    Front valance
    Sunroof panel
    4 Jacking points
    4 Fuel tank mounting points
    2 Rear brake backing plates
    Rear panel

Some of these parts are getting rare and difficult to obtain now, the price of some of the parts is getting quite serious now too, but in for a penny and all that....

I would also like to replace the front seats (E46 compact I think), replace the dash (with a flocked one), rebush and rebuild the rear axle (Need to source a rear diff) and I wouls like to get a TECH II kit for her (if I can afford it after all that)..... If the project is alive after this, a nice engine conversion may be on the cards (credit of course...)

Wish me luck, I know that I am going to need it...

Bloody nice car and I can understand preferring to keep a car over shifting it on and buying another

I always knew that their was some rust/holes lurking somewhere TBH, the boot was a bit damp just before I took her off the road. Some are even worse, although I am sure that I will find more before I have finished - this is only the boot area so far.....

The E30 is one of my most favourite cars ever from my youth.... Can't bare to part with this one, even if it takes me years and 's - got to do it.....

I'll be watching this one too, never mind the rust & holes, it's a project. Have fun with it!

I don't have pictures of the other part of the inner wings (the ones nearest the outer quarters) but they are properly fu*ked...... Not too difficult to replace so I am told - time will tell.

See I hit 10 in 95 and got into cars and mini rodding so the big beast BMW was the E36 thats why I bought this one as a bit of fun but I have fallen madly in love with it.

I only paid about a grand for it for it with 12 months MOT on it at the time (4 or 5 years ago)..... Didn't seem worth selling it TBH, just moved it from one garage/workshop to another until I had the space, time and money to have a crack at it again. Just one car that I couldn't part with... (Yet!!!)
