The idle screw I found on the original was wound right in tight. I've set it in all places and each one has had no bearing on the operating of the engine. I'll never know why it was wound in, I can only assume that because the cars previous owner loved a bodge or was easily stitched up by repairers that it was done by one of his 'specialists' to counter another issue, like the leaking cold start valve. It had also had both lids off previously for unknown reasons. I also think that the massive backfire last year where it blew up probably saw it off.
The replacement AFM is untouched and was removed from a decent running car which was rotten so at least I have a good base to go from.
It still needs a fp regulator on it though and then that's it all pretty much changed out. Might give it a good run this week to see what's changed with regards to performance and mpg... Just out of interest. The brakes are pissing me off though, I generally don't use them but when I have to, medium to hard, it feels like the car is about to break up!

That screw is meant to have aplastic cap over and never be touched and winding them up too tight does fubar them

The lid over the round toothed wheel is often removed, people used to mark the wheel then slacken 5 teeth, allegedly better pickup and no detectable difference in fuel economy.............allegedly

Allegedly... I tried that both ways and it ran like a total pig but then... You know... Other issues too...
