Some of you might have seen this before chaps.
Picked this up off of eBay yesterday with my brother when the sun was shining down in Sittingbourne, Kent. It's an early E23 735i 5 speed manual in Graphite Grey with Parchment leather interior. Last on the road about a year ago and has had 2 owners since new. Lovely old thing but needs a fair amount of fettling. Only classic car, that I've driven that drives pretty much like a modern car with lots of toys and 220bhp. Goes OK but I suspect a fair few of those ponies have found there way into a lasagna/burger along the way, maybe I can retrieve a few but not really bothered about going fast in it.
It's very solid underneath and would go as far to say that its better than most e36/e46 that have come through my garage. It has no arch liners as they didn't bother with plastic tat back then so must have had a bucket of water chucked at it and been looked after OK. Although it was BM's flag ship model its surprising that its got electric everything, air conditioning, 4 piston brakes, ABS, Check control, you name it its got it.
Didn't have the balls to attempt driving back on my trade plates after its been sat so long so the guy earned him self another few quid and delivered it for us.
I'll let the pics do the talking.
Now for all that's wrong with it but also whats right with it too.
Mechanically its spot on. Runs and drives perfectly except for a stick back passenger caliper. Also been a right geek and made a list of all the bits and bobs and their respective part numbers from RealOEM. Work was quiet today so made the most of it and started adding to the list. Whipped off the back wheel and had a look at the caliper that was sticking and as expected its gone the way of the dodo- seized and pealing back the piston dust cover shows its all rusty inside.
10 minutes later and miraculously without a skinned knuckle or lost temper it was off on the deck. Pads are buggered too but the discs look new ish. Being all confident and smug about being able to still get from BMW virtually all the interior and trim parts I got on the blower to several car parts places and then finally to ECP to be told computer says no by all of them, apart from ECP, that it was special order only. Should get a new one in a couple of days from Germany and at £50 I can't sniff at that. I suspect the dealers would've got me one in a flash but I'd be thoroughly anally violated financially for the privilege so gave them a miss.
Next up is I'll get the caliper and pads in and get it rolling properly and off to MOT.
