Engine from non ews car into ews car

Hi folks, couldnt think of anywhere else to put this thread

Just looking for some advice/ opinions as im a bit, well a lot confused now about this

I really would like to take the 2.5 litre M50 from a 525 ive got and put it in my 520 with the 2 litre M50

I thought it would be a straight swap but after googling it i think its not so easy as the 525 is non ews and my 520 is ews tho i cant find the link now

It was more or less saying you need the engine, loom, ecu and ews module to make it work as their all connected in the ews but my ecu in the 520 wont work with the 525 engine obviously but that ecu is part of the whole ews system on the 520...

If ive got that right what im asking really is if there is a way to do it leaving out the ews in my car once its done?

Any advice would be good really as like i said im just confused about it now after getting a 525 as a donor and now it might not work

    Cheers, watty

    Hope ive explained it right

I think all you need is the ECU and engine if it's not EWS don't need the key and barrel. It is more difficult if it is the other way around.....

I would go the traditional route of fitting the engine with the old injection system and worry about the other bits later.

Re the EWS, remember all you have to do is fit the old keys transponder chip taped to the pickup from the new cars lock barrell and tucked under the dash or somewhere to reduce the complications

Pre EWS cars don't have a transponder chip

As above mate, if your 520 has ews then all you need to do to bypass is attached the key chip from the 520 and stick it on the side of the ews unit, fit the 2.5 engine wire up and job done mate

That's why the quote starts "RE: EWS"

But I do take your point as it's about non EWS into EWS which should be easier

Though I would still go with my first answer of use the destination cars management and worry about it later. You don't have to move everything lock stock and barrel for things to work.
People can argue it may be less than ideal but it is more ideal than a non runner or anothoer unfinished project

Cheers mate, do you mean leave the injection system from the 520 in place?

You won't need the 525 key Watty the 520 key will work without a hitch. It's only a headache if you are going from a non EWS to EWS ECU and engine is most likely all you will need

Awe no im confused again lol

The 2.5 litre is coming from a non ews car into an ews car and i thought the ecu from the 525 would be no use with the ews in the 520? My heads bursting now

the EWS is built into the ECU. If you put in the ECU from the 525 then there is no EWS to worry about. Then all you need to do us put the engine in too
