M52 B28 engine - Is the crank sensor 'hall' or 'VR' type?

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, so Mods feel free to move elsewhere...

I'm currently setting up the VEMS standalone ems on my 328i turbo.

Is the crank sensor a hall sensor - or is it VR?
I've had a mooch online - some people (mainly Americans) seem to think it is neither (which doesn't help much!)

    Any help would be appreciated...!

The M54 is a hall effect sensor.

So I assume the M52 will also be hall effect.

I found this thread after a quick google search, it was this thread that most confused me....
    I believe it's a hall sensor...

    EDIT: (To include Ronnie's link)
