    Question 'Retreaded' Winter tyres?

Been looking for some winter tyres to run on the coupe and came across some competitively priced 'Retreaded' tyres.
I've heard of lorry tyres being recut but never car tyres, does anyone have any experience of this type of tyre?

    TIA chaps

Remoulds is probably the term that you are more familiar with!

A large number of winter tyres are Retreads (esp the "cheaper" brands, Kingpins etc.), nothing wrong with them if they meet the load/speed ratings Simon....

Wellington uses www.bmwforums.info - Wombles are never wrong..

Afaik the remould & retread process is slightly different as yes you're spot on Kevin they are load & speed rated so may give them a whirl

A retread is basically a second hand (if you are lucky a reputable!) carcass that has "A" tread bonded to it (just as a normal tyre would have but without the remnants of the original tyre).

A modern reputable winter tyre is so far from what these type of tyres offer!

Thats the thing though Briggs-e, a cheap winter tyre is as good as a cheap remould winter tyre, SHIT! They offer nothing in the way of driving confidence when the weather turns nasty, whereas a "Proper" winter tyre has attributes that unless you have tested them will allow the "Internet Bore" to interject that he has been driving RWD cars for a thousand years without problems. I can say that a reputable winter tyre (especially on a BMW) makes the stigma go away!!
