My 6er came with fat old 235/45 17's on. They were fecking awful, old and square. I got some runners on it for the MOT and when I started actually using the car I found that they found the worn tyre ditches in the tarmac on the motorway everytime. This caused the car to sway and me having to correct the steering constantly. After I'd saved a few pound notes I searched for some new rubber. 235's were uncommon and why were they even on there? I decided to reduce the width to 225's and selected Dunlop sport01's for the rounded shoulder, good rain performance and some fuel thing. No influence from from last years BTCC. Well today I used all 4 of them on a 200 mile round trip and cruised as I was in no rush at about 60 +/- 5mph. I was astonished, that's astonished, to see the consumption display show figures never displayed before. And I got proof!
Now with the michelin, continental and dunlop mix of worn tyres this figure never fell below 9.5... ever. I don't even know what this new figure means but it's different and that matters. I should read the cars manual and find out! There's a job for Saturday right there.
Road noise is now very quite and this has amplified all the knocks, bangs and squeaks, that's a bad point.
