i've got an X3 (2006) Diesel sport and a while back had an issue with it going into limp mode (however hard i pressed the accelerator, the revs wouldnt go above 2500rpm)
long story short....the (non) BMW garage replaced a glow plug, took the diesel particle filter off and air hosed it clean then "regenerised" it (i'm led to believe this means driving the car at around 60-80mph for a period of approximately 40mins) which enables you to reset the engine management system and erase the error codes. This is purely what the garage has told me ?????!!!!!!
That was about 6weeks ago, i am now having a similar problem, although i only experience the problem in 3rd gear onwards where the revs wont exceed 3000rpm. i contacted the same garage and they put it on theyre diagnostic and the result of that showed that another glow plug was failing.
The garage tried to have my pants down by saying i was offered to change all 4 glow plugs when the original problem occurred, but they didnt and consequently tried to charge me for the labour required to fit the remaining 3 glow plugs. Anyway theyve had the car for 4 days now, have chnged all the glow plugs, but are now saying it is the oxygen sensor ?????
My concern is is that i could be going round in circles with this and the cost could spiral out of control. Ive already paid £240 and ive managed to get them down to £190 for the latest labour. The last thing i need is to be paying out these kind of sums every couple of months for the same kind of issue.
Would anyone reccommend an alternative to having a diesel particle filter as i have read this is possible ????
