Hi everyone, this is my first time at doing this (newbie). I have a 2002 X5 3.0D sport. Had an issue with the car suddenly not wanting to accelerate normally.
as i was only 6 miles from home I decide to limp home at a reduced speed. This I managed to do.
next day I went for another test drive and it was the same, but before i could get back home clouds of white smoke belowed out of the exhaust, the engine accelerated on its own and the engine cut out.
To cut a long story short, I had it taken to main dealer. They found diesel in the engine sump, faulty EGR valve and some collapsed vacuum pipes. This was all done at an extortionate price.
they asked me to run the car for a couple of hundred miles and bring it back so they could check on the oil contamination, 25 miles later I was back in limp mode, continued home (2 more miles) no smoke this time. Checked the dip stick and the sump is full of fuel.
Main dealer says I need a fuel pump. (this is going to cost)
Does any one know if this is job that can be carried out by a pretty good mechanic at home if he has the right tools?
I have been looking at recon units and also the special tools (ebay purchase)
Has anyone replaced a high pressure fuel injection unit.
Look forward to your feed back.
