Owner of 3.0D X3 for 7 years of trouble free motoring. Engine is regularly serviced with quality oil. Then this evening making my final turn in my street, the engine blipped and over revved. Then as I coasted into the driveway I was swamped by an enormous cloud of blue oil smoke.....really really bad. smoke was coming from exhaust mostly but was also present in the engine bay. Oil level is OK (maybe a little high). I let the car sit for 5 mins, same result on start up. No grinding clanking or other strange noises, but lots of smoke. Let the car sit for 90 mins while I read some forums, guessing a turbo seal. Then I wanted to move the car to check for 'puddles'. On start up from cool, no smoke no strange noise and plenty of power. So that worst possible fault....an intermittent. Anyone any thoughts?
