Such a relief to find what I suspected. We’re all being taken for mugs!
    Bought my new X3 2.0diesel December 2015.
June 1st 2016 broke down. EGR valve replaced.
April 8th 2017 broke down. EGR valve replaced. Car off road for 4 weeks
Nov 25th 2017 in for diagnosis. Fault found with EGR.
    Dec 1st 2017. EGR reprogrammed.
Dec 8th 2017. EGR replaced again?!?!
My car is still less than 2 years old has done 20k miles!?!
Is this what we have to accept from a supposed premium car manufacturer?

    EGR nightmare

    Hi guys
    Were being taken for mugs.
    My time line:-
    Bought X3 2.0d xline new Dec 2015
June 2016 taken to dealer by BMW assist. EGR replaced.
April 2017 taken to dealer by BMW assist. EGR replaced. Took 4 weeks as none available and being redesigned.
Nov 2017 took to dealer myself as misfiring. EGR needs reprogramming Im told. Had it done
Dec 2017 took to dealer myself as still misfiring. EGR gasket replaced.
This is a scandle they are trying hide.
I did everything I could to reject the car as not fit for purpose.
Got a goodwill gesture from BMW plus an extra years warranty.
But they would not take car back.
If they had the floodgates would open is my thought.
    Andy

Sounds like a new variation on an old problem. Sticking EGR valves have been common on the N47D20 engine ever since it was released. Over 10 years ago in the X3's. I am about to pull mine out to clean and check for the third time in 75000 miles due to DDE fault light on dash again. Then I won't have to pay to have it fixed by the BM specialist when it goes in on the 30th Apr. to have the Timing Chain System replaced before it blows the engine. Another common problem on this engine caused by poor design (8mm pin centres on the cam drive chain, that's smaller than a bicycle chain) along with BS recommended service intervals of 15k miles for the first 3 oil changes by the first owner. Hasn't been over 9k between changes since I've owned it and is now down to 5k. Only ever used the best oils approved by BM. I recommend anyone who has this engine do likewise if they expect it to last. They do perform well though, but I won't go near any dealer after warranty. They all have $ signs for eyes in my experience.
