    Transmission issues

My Dads x5 lost all drive he took it to a BMW specialists we use and he found a fault with a tooth in the rear diff somewhere (im not sure of the exact details)! Fixed it and all was good, now the abs lights, traction control light and a 'mechanical fault with trans' message on the dash ans is in 2 wheel drive. The same guy reset the codes but theyve come back again, and the guy recons he needs a new or recon transfer box!. I'd like to get a second opinion on this as I dont see how there could suddenly be a fault with it when the wasnt before.. Soooo anyone know any good bmw specialists or 4x4 transmission specialists in or around teh west midlands? Cheers.

I believe your dad has auto box on x5. well, the abs, traction control and transmission fault can be as simple as ABS/speed sensor duffed. every wheel has got one sensor, and your dad should be getting his codes read on good diagnostic from someone else.

You'll find a list of your local BMW specialists in the http://www.bmwforums.info/garages-bo...es-county.html section and if its not too far BM Wizard is Oswestry is held in very high regard by members.
Other than that you could try googling local transmission specialists or asking a couple of your local garages who they use for this kind of specialist repair,
theory being they won't send their customers cars to poor auto specialists.

Good Luck and please post up your experiences
