How to tell powered seats from heated and powered when off car?

Hi folks, I am looking to retro fit some electric adjust heated seats to my 2005 E85 and wondered how you can tell the difference between the seats which are just power adjust and those which are powered and heated when looking at them off the shelf? I'm guessing that checking the wires and/or connectors is a good way? If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Mike

There may be an easier way but here's a link to the retrofit pdf http://etk.bmwsar.ru/eba_docs/6412en.pdf
from that you should be able to identify exactly what pin outs & coloured wiring activates the heated element then check the wiring pin outs / coloured wires
on the mating seat wired plug to see if they're fitted , if they are present that , to my mind at least , would indicate the seat has heated seats ?
Conversely if the pin outs / coloured wires aren't present its a non heated seat ?

Thanks Simon, I'll try but I'm not great with wiring diagrams.

I think I could do with a pic of a powered and heated seat connector on the underside of the seat, showing the wires going into it to see what I should expect to see. Can anybody help here please?

Looking at section 6 on pdf pins 23, 24 & 25 are retrofitted so check on the seat plug if they're wired in?

Out of curiosity is your Z4 already wired for heated seats then?

Being totally honest I really couldn't say, a good friend of mine favorite quote is "assumption is the mother of all ****ups" so with that in mind it may well be worth checking that's the case?

Well you're very right to advise caution. I have discovered that the wiring isnt present in my 2005 e85 2.0i car :-(
The retrofit kits for both z4 and x3 ( which I found out is very similar) are no longer available. I have decided to buy an early e85 loom to canniblise to make the loom I need, I just need to identify the circuits for the feed for powered seats as well as heated somehow, which wont be difficult at the seat end but where they connect to at the supply end might be harder depending on how complete my loom is and model variations? Thanks for the help and advice Simon :-)

Hmm it's definitely going to be more involved than 1st thought then Mike .
Seems there's a few diy retrofits online & I'm sure with all the info in there you should be able to cherry pick all you need to do yours?

Should have said I'll post the links up for you next time I'm on a PC
