    roof problems

    Hi, new to this forum!
    I hope someone can help....please.
My wife's 2002 z3 2.2 roadster has developed roof problems. The roof operates intermittently so motor/pump seems ok. So far I have shorted out the microswitch above passengers head.
I've tested the up/down roof switch.
Now, with the microswitch shorted, wife in seat with ignition on, brake pedal pressed, roof switch pressed constantly, pump in manual mode. I lift roof manually and motor starts and stops in similar areas as I move it up and down.
Obviously now it looks like there is a break in a wire somewhere, or does anyone know of maybe another microswitch somewhere?
Looks like a major stripdown to get to the fault.
Anyone experienced this, and if so where to look?
Any help or ideas would be appreciated, thanks
    Yamsterjam

Hi Yamsterjam & welcome to the forums

Unfortunately I have no experience with Z3s or their folding roof issues but I hope this PDF can assist you , http://wedophones.com/Manuals/BMW/19...g%20Manual.pdf

it is for earlier Z3s however I very much doubt the roof operation has changed at all, page 161 is entitled ELECTRO-MECHANICAL CONVERTIBLE TOP and has a wiring diagram where you should be able to identify the number of microswitches used ?

    z3 roof probs

Hi Simon, thanks for your quick response,
I got to grips with the problem yesterday and sure enough a severed wire was the cause. The wires, although in a protective sheath suffer at the bottom end going through a torturous bend for 15 years finally gave up.
When I get it rewired I'll maybe post a few pics on here as loads of people seem to be suffering similar probs
    thanks again mate
