Smile Lightweight seats for the E85 Z4 ?

    Hi!

I'm thinking of swapping out the standard (non-electric) seats in my 2003 E85 Z4 2.5i for a pair of lighter, after-market units.
Has anyone had any experience of doing this ? I'm a little concerned about the airbag sensors and other electrical connections.
Any idea of the potential weight saving ?
I also imagine that cost, comfort, and appearance may well be deciding factors too.

    Cheers!

I'm planning (and have been for about 4 years) on swapping the M seats in my Z4MC for Recaro Pole Positions.

Savings will be about 20kg a seat, due to lack of heavy frame and motors.

If you want really light, then go for a pair of carbon Tillett seats (B6 or B6F).

Although as you say, they won't be cheap.

You can get cheaper seats if you go for steel-framed ones, but there's not as much weight-saving. You can also go for fibreglass instead of carbon.

You can usually either 'code out' or bypass the occupancy sensors so that they're live all the time. The seat heating (if you have it) is more complicated as you'd either have to remove what you already have and retrofit it under the new seats' covers, or buy a pair of seats with custom heating fitted (Recaro and Tillett both offer this I believe).

The prices I've been looking at have been around 1k per seat with mounts/rails. But that's for basic materials (i.e. no custom leather, alcantara) and zero options (airbags, seat heating).
