Only attempt to read this if you are sober...
I cancelled my renewal(Lancaster) a month ago as the insuring company stopped the product and they wanted stupid money. Here's the bit to watch...
I cancelled via email at the beginning of February, sending a formal cancellation notice, over a month before it was due and took up a policy with another company. (Silly boy here left the direct debit open). Come March, I gets a new policy from them (Lancaster) and they've removed funds from my account. So I had 2 policies running. A bit fuming I gave them (Lancaster) a call. Their customer services was not that helpful and advised me to contact another company (Capita). I done this and I had to forward the original e-mail. Done. Then they sent me a reply. I had to create an account with some firm I've never heard of (Capita) to read the mail, and I could only open the mail once. They wanted proof that I'm insured elsewhere, so I scanned a copy over (not charging £12.50 admin fee). I asked to be notified that they had received it. No notification from them. So mailed the address asking many questions, ultimately 'where is my money' and 'I want it back NOW'! I got a reply in which I had to sign into this strange site again to read. They got it, great. Also they (Capita) advised me that the email I originally sent (to Lancaster) cancelling my renewal did not exist, making it look like it was my fault.
This email is on the original brokers (Lancaster) headed note paper! I had to check it twice in case I was having a blond moment, sure enough it was ok and I mailed it again with no response. I didn't hear when I was going to get my funds back so mailed the strange company (Capita) again, and never got a reply. I got a letter a couple of days ago from the original broker (Lancaster), hand signed in biro from someone, thanking me for my recent letter cancelling my policy and letting me know that the policy had been cancelled from the beginning. NO Mention of where my money is and whats happening to it! And if you count an un-received email over a month old as a recent letter, then somethings wrong somewhere.
I rang them (Lancaster) asking to speak to this person, but funnily enough they don't speak on the phone, as I was told, which got me super mad.
Then was advised I'd get a call back, which didn't happen. On the back of their schedule there is a complaints procedure to follow. If there's no success with the original broker (Lancaster) then I'm to contact another firm (Highways insurance) somewhere else, which I did. The person on the end of the phone said that they had no dealings with them and had no idea why their details were on the paperwork, but from the National insurance database could see who the company was that I used to be insured with (Allianz) and gave me their number... helpful. I called them (Allianz) on a 0844 number and they advised that they had no control over where the funds had gone and I was to sort it out with the original broker(Lancaster). So again, I called them (Lancaster) up and spoke to someone and told them it's getting a bit stupid now.
He said that they had some access to accounts and went and looked. Came back and told me that I'd be refunded by the end of the week and it's all cancelled. He done all that in the space of 4 minutes. He also didn't know why they had that other address on their paperwork or why the email doesn't work which is on their headed paper.
All that took me throughout a week to find out.
Can you imagine if I'd missed a payment? I'd be notified within 2 days to pay up and have the looming threat of having my policy cancelled with a list of laws I'd be breaking .....for sure!
Lancaster Insurance, you are first class bumheads., I'd pay extra to not go with yous lot!
Then I made some toast.
