Hello guys (And girls) first post and unfortunately it's going to be a long one ...
I'm looking for a spot of advice. A couple of weeks back the turbo on my E90 320d failed. I didn't have all the smoke etc just a siren type noise, loss of power and a trip home on the back of the AA wagon. I ordered a recon turbo from Turbo Technics in Norhtampton (As per the chap who very kindly did the awesome guide regarding swapping his) anyway turbo was swapped as per the guide and the recommendations of Turbo Technics however I also took the liberty of changing the glow plugs (Had a couple of codes regarding them) and obviously a full service.
Now I took the car out and there is most certainly a large flat spot between 1000-1800rpm. I've since been out in another and the general pull of the car is not that of the others I have drove.
Worrying now I have encountered a bit of a whine from the turbo. If you accelerate from 1500rpm in 2nd you get a small whine, Letting off the throttle and back on again also causes this whine but if you keep the throttle pinned you get no whine. There is no smoke, No stutter and I can't see any obvious air leaks.
I've attached a video (Please ignore the actual video, It's the audio which you want) to demonstrate the noise. You will probably need headphones as it's really difficult to capture the noise outside the car without all the wind noise as well (Interestingly you cannot hear this in the car)
With so much changed I'm a bit lost as to what the issue could be. I'd like to think it wasn't the turbo (Having gone to the trouble of following the running in procedure and taking the extra precaution of making sure oil came out of the return pipe as well so that I could be sure there was no oil starvation) however I did reuse the washers when I put the intake manifold back together. So at the moment I'm looking around that bit of the engine (EGR, Intake manifold etc)
Can anyone else help? I'm going to send the same video to Turbo Technics (Who have been extremely helpful so far I might add) to see what they think.
Anyway, Any help you guys could offer would be appreciated.
