I'm a little stumped and hoping someone can give me some useful advice!
The oil in my car has been changed three times in the past 6000 miles (yes, some may say it's a bit excessive...):
- once by the dealer when I picked it up. After the 180-mile drive home I checked the oil and it was black, so I thought the dealer was just lying about servicing it.
- again by me a week after getting it home. After re-adding nice clean oil I ran the engine for about 5 minutes and checked the oil again. Black.
- again by me about 7 months (5k miles) later (earlier this afternoon). This time I also changed the turbo oil breather, although I didn't really need to as I discovered it was a vaico model but I replaced it with a new vaico model anyway. Ran the engine for 5 minutes and again, black.
Each time I changed it I also replaced the oil filter.
Now, I've changed oil in several other cars in the past and after running the engine for a bit it's still usually golden, however it doesn't seem to be the case.
Should I be concerned at this? Does this point to potentially sludge/something nasty lurking in my engine? Would repeated oil changes help with this, or some of those "engine oil cleaner's" you see on the shelves at halfords?
Any advice gratefully appreciated!
