Hello, new to the forum, have been advised this is the best place to come seeking help with an issue I'm having.
If have a E46 M3 (UK model), have set up INPA and DIS on an old Vista laptop, there are both working fine and talking to all modules of the car with no problems, except for the DME/engine module ! Neither software will detect the DME reliably, 99% of the time it simply will not be detected, but INPA has occasionaly detected and connected to it very briefly before the connection dies and it won't reconnect.
I have a modded Vagcom cable with FT232BM, it came already modded, I have opened it up to check the mod and it is done correctly.
I have found out the dme is seperate from the other modules on the second k-line, have tried a temporary mod of the cable, removing the short from pins 7+8 and connected only pin 7 (dme), made no difference.
I have also checked the obd port as best I can, there is around 9v on pins 7 & 8 with nothing connected to the port (cap open, cable disconnected). This I think is ok, at least the 2 pins are the same and other k-line works fine.
Some I think i'm looking at 2 possibilities,
1. the cable, I have read some people find cables with FT232RL chips to be more reliable with certain software (don't know if that applies to INPA/DIS).
2. something wrong with the DME itself.
Note, car starts and drives fine, the only reason i've discovered this is i've done some work on my Vanos and wanted to do the Vanos test in DIS.
I will try to get hold of a FT232RL based cable to try, in the mean time has anyone had this issue and/or know what to do about it?
