    Sometimes the world is still flat, especially if you can't see as far as the horizon

    Various numbers for these cars are on the piece of paper staple gunned under the back seat and on steel fuel tank access panels under there too. Doubt it helps but............
    Some people have had joy with dis where inpa had not worked

    I'll tag @FAL, hopefully he'll see it and be able to assist you.

    Like, ON the panels? I haven't seen it thus far, but I'll check since removing the rear seats in a sedan is real easy. Thanks! :

    Since FAL seems to be gone, I'm having a hard time coming up with a solution for this, since INPA is missing M43 Motronic 1.7 files and those who have them are not active anymore.

    Anyone else on this forum know about this? Can I read the ISN with DIS?
    Have you tried DME17.IPO? 1.87 is the latest version, it supports DME variants DM172K20 and DM173K20. Alternatively, depending upon which variant you have, open the appropriate SGBD in Tool32 (DM172K20.PRG or DM173K20.PRG) and execute the isn_lesen job to read the ISN:
    Code:
    	<JOB>
    		<JOBNAME>ISN_LESEN</JOBNAME>
    		<JOBCOMMENT></JOBCOMMENT>
    		<RESULT>
    			<RESULTNAME>ISN_LESEN_WERT</RESULTNAME>
    			<RESULTTYPE>string</RESULTTYPE>
    			<RESULTCOMMENT>ISN als  WERT</RESULTCOMMENT>
    		</RESULT>
    		<RESULT>
    			<RESULTNAME>JOB_STATUS</RESULTNAME>
    			<RESULTTYPE>string</RESULTTYPE>
    			<RESULTCOMMENT></RESULTCOMMENT>
    		</RESULT>
    	</JOB>

    This is also a good idea, I'm going to give this a try the next time I take the car into the workshop.
    It's currently in winter storage.
