    Great DIY post.

Only problem I have is more I read the more I'm getting confused.
    I have a E46 2004 318 with the OBD connector.

Looking to buy the Vagcom connector, do I have to solder pins 7 and 8?
Also could anyone please direct to where I could get the software to use?

    Thanks again for the DIY.

Just about to buy the lead now, could you please tell me does it matter what chip is in the lead?

Ive read that the chip must be either FT232RL or FL232RL. Is this true?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thanks for putting together this great guide

I have a vagcom interface with FT232BL chip - I have done the joining of the pins and mod for the battery & ignition detect.
I have also downloaded a 326mb version of the software and am trying to install on an old laptop with virgin XP Pro install.
But there is no FDTI river as per the bit that says "point it towards your FDTI vcp driver folder in the INPA folder" - so I'm stuck....

Have I downloaded a dodgy version of the 326mb version of the software?

    Thx

A little late but basically for INPA both the FT 232 BL & FT 232 RL chip are suitable.

If you're wanting to advance onto DIS/SSS software the FT 232 RL is far easier to modify to use that software.

Its discussed in more detail in this thread paying particular attention to doggy's link in post #9 http://www.bmwforums.info/ecu-diagno...e-dis-sss.html

Download the VCP drivers direct from FTDI... Virtual COM Port Drivers
