    see it depends wot module you wanna read fault codes on or diagnose. there's engine,gearbox,chassis, body, drivetrain with sub sections..unless its ADS ya cant get the lot but you get a few with the cheaper adaptor the most important one the engine is in there tho..

    ya car just doesent spit fault codes for everything out in 1 place, you have to connect to the module in question to retrieve the fault codes..

    example central locking fault or a cluster fault ya have to connect to body then its sub section...

    most ppl are only ever interested in engine and ABS and reversing sensors realistically its the most common for issues on beemers..

    Is this an ads port. And will it work on windows 7?

    No it isn't an ads port Mark, the modern leads are all USB so don't worry about connectivity hardware problems

    As said, no it's not, thats a VGA port for connecting older style monitors to.

    This is an ADS adapter: BMW INPA / Ediabas OBD & ADS Interface | eBay

    With your E46, you'll be good with just using the USB ports.

    i thought the other post said half the functions won't work through a usb? i do have an older desktop as well thats on xp if the usb option won't access abs etc.

    if the car you are diagnosing is OBD II then you don't need ADS the USB cable is what you need

    I have a 2000 323 and a 2002 325 so they will be obd2 won't they?
