    Cool

I may be still taking a mini hiatus from the BMW scene, but that doesn't stop many others from everywhere else, taking inspirations and ideas from my old project. Nay-sayers always say get a 6-pot, but that didn't stop me getting 170+ bhp from a tiny M43 engine. Goes to show that anything is possible!

i this is a bit old thread. but im thinking of turbo charging my m40 engine in my e36 318i. finding a new car isnt an option as theres only limited number of cars here and most of them are 316 & 318s and this is the only car i could find with decent interior quality
so my options are to either swap the engine for a m50 or m52. or go for a cool turbo setup which will boost arnounf 2500-3000 revs
my question is will a td04 do the job?
if so what about the ECU?
whats the exsaust mani you have used here? is that a snap on kit?

    thanks

Have a look at my other thread here ===> http://www.bmwforums.info/bmw-tuning...x-engines.html
I've written all the possibilities of tuning an M4x engine.

M40 is not that different from M43. So some parts for M43 will also work on M40.

When I added turbo to my car, I was getting 160-170bhp+. Another member from the US, was able to get 150, he posted a dyno chart too, but I forgot the link sorry!

TD04 can work, actually any turbo can work. Just make sure it is limited to a MAX of 8PSI when you're using stock engine parts.
Otherwise, you can go upto 15PSI, if you do major engine upgrades. (I've explained this in my M4x engine tuning guide above ^ ^ ^ )

If you keep the M40, you will get maybe a MAX of 150-170bhp. (M40B18 only) , otherwise M40B16 would be much less (maybe 140bhp)
    A standard M52/M50 is usually between 140-189bhp.

I think the sound of a turbocharged engine is more exciting & more fun to play with

help with m43 turbo build plz

hi I have been reading your post on your m43 build and it a good read and the pics help but I have a mosselman turbo kit that I bught second hand a bit a go off a bmw e36 with the m43 engine have all the bites but seems a bid different to your. mine engine is the m43 but the 1.6 not the 1.8 engine and it does not have the extra idle sensor on the throttle inlet like yours. I have had the car chip and got bigger injectors from a 1.8 is m42 I have also got boost valve have cut off down pipe for the turbo that came with the turbo kit need it welding to exhaust. as I was looking at your post I notes that u live in Yorkshire and was wondering if u could give me a hand or have a look over what I have and point me in the right direction. I think the main thing that I am un sure about is the 2 t pipe u have one for the dump valve and the 1 for the injectors as unsure by your diagram. I also think my turbo has been altered eg bigger or so it fits in better thanks calem have sent u a friend request thanks

    @c19lem528
Your mosselman kit will still work, it just means extra work to get it going. It is not surprising that 1.6 & 1.8 aren't the same, hence the 1.6 doesn't have the extras that are fitted to a 1.8

I'd need to know what have you done exactly so far, did you make a new project thread yet on this forum ? I could have a read & add a few comments.

Yes I live in yorkshire (very close to you), I'm not sure if you're allowed to send PM's yet, but if you can, then send me a PM with your address & i'll pop over to see what you've done so far.

If you can't PM me, then send me an email from my own site.
