my bike honda cbr1000rr 04 model had charging issues last year which turned out to be a fried stator coil. this is very common for the 04-05 blades, so much that honda extended the warranty to 7 years on them and they now sell an uprated flywheel and stator as a matched pair.
here is what it looked like first time round.
it turned out that my bike was just out of the warranty period so i had to pay over £300 for a new alternator.
took it home, fitted it and all was well again.
just under a year later i have has some issued with the cam cover gasket poping out with a big cloud of smoke coming from my crotch area, i managed to pop it back in but it wasnt long before it done it again. so i done some research and found that when the stator fails it can arc out, ignite the crack case gasses and pop the cam cover seal outwards.
i set out today looking for the problem and it was pretty conclusive, genuine uprated honda charging system has shit its self again...
now my problem is that when i went to the dealer today he said to me that because the part wasnt fitted by a honda workshop they may not be able to exchange it under warranty! he is currently waiting for a reply from honda uk.
now i wasnt told this when i bought the part that it wouldnt be under warranty if i fit it myself and to be honest i think that is a load of bullshit anyway.
i just want to know where i stand legally with a warranty?
and just for fun here is the bike in its sad state now :(
