During World War 2 BMW used forced slave labour to build aero engines, they were skilled engineers from the Dachau Concentration camp to the north west of Munich and about 10 miles away, the workers were Jewish, political enemy's of the Nazi state, homosexuals or gypsies.
This does to a degree make the company war criminals, you can argue that many large companies of the time did the same though that doesn't make it right. Though for the workers it was probably better to work at BMW than in the quarry doing hard manual labour with only one slice of bread the thickness of your thumb to eat a day. They were forced to sleep in dorms that were designed to hold 200 people but actual house 2000 people, life was unbelievable for them with beatings and starvation and for most death. So think about it when you next drive your BMW !!!
