So as I had my birthday on 19th I was looking for some nice present for myself and because my gf wanted to buy me a ride in a super car I was looking for it on a web and then found BMW Driving Experience Day at Brands Hatch so straight away I knew I wanted! it was more expensive then a ride in super car so I said to her that I will chip in cause I don't want miss the opportunity to drive those cars!
It is a bit too far from York but I decided to go day before and stay in B&B so I will be fresh and ready for next day activities because I didn't want to wake up in the middle of the night and leave York around 3am to be at Brands Hatch for around 8am
Once I bought the package I received an e-mail with all details of what to expect
After looking at these brief description I knew I made a right decision to go for it and I was so excited that I couldn't sleep for few nights lol
So after a sleepless night at my B&B I set off for the Brands Hatch!
When I get there I was greet with this
After sign in I received my pass
And then went to take my seat with a cup of coffee and bacon butty
Everything was just like I expected to be on a very high standards with every one greeting you and treating you like you are special guest in a special place on a special day!Just perfect
Then after a few minutes speech by one of the hosts we get assigned to our guides and start the day!
At this moment I was really excited and couldn't wait for the first activity
So first was a short drive to the paddock area where we get to choose our cars for a drive on a public roads around Brands Hatch!
I went for a brand new 6 series Grand Coupe with all the extras in 40d Sport trim
It is a really great car and in Sport mode it feels faster then my M3 hehe I did use paddle shifts to have a small play with it as I was curious how quick it swaps the cogs and to be far I was surprised how good it is!
When I check the spec list of this 6GC it was around £80k car
Then to the next activity which was a drive of a new M3/M4 on track with instructor
Before I get to the car we all get pen drives to record our drive around the track and put the helmet on and went to choose the car
As I wanted to try a DCT gearbox I went for M4
I did around 5-6 laps in it and I must to say that it was brilliant! In some way I was excepting more from them but maybe its because I couldn't really push hard even being on track ( and I didn't want to crash it!) and I don't think that we were in full M mode though
The DCT gearbox is awesome and the sound of the engine is actually really nice and pleasant for ears as you don't really hear the turbo whistle!
The interior is state of art with chunky steering wheel and awesome seats!
I think I didn't go faster then 120mph but for me it was more about the whole experience of driving those cars then blasting them around the track!
After this was a ride as a passenger in a E92 M3 GTP prepared by Palmer with professional driver
I was lucky to get in the car with this gentleman
Do you know who is he ?
Yes its him
Mr Andy Priaulx
That was one of the best moments in my life if I m honest with you!
I said to him make it special as its my birthday today and that was something epic!
As we were last behind 2 cars in front he drove like a nutter sitting on the bumper of a car in front of us all the time and going sideways looking and chatting with me even when we were going back to pit he went sideways through chicane!
For me he drove like a nut but probably he didn't even try to push hard lol
I was so excited after those 40min that I couldn't wait for more activities!
Next was an 4x4 experience in one of the X5's or X3's
I went for a X5 in 30d M sport trim cause there was queue for the M50d unfortunately
I was really surprised how good the X5 is and the steering was soo light and effortless that I could drive it on this 4x4 track with my fingers only!
Love the space and handling of it cause there was a part of that track with tarmac and small chicane and the car felt well planted with just a bit of a body roll due to high and weight! But still I m very impressed with it!
After this we went back to the main building for the lunch and to have a small break from driving
During lunch there was a time for a Q&A with our VIP's of the day
Lunch was delicious with nice desert and me being full I was ready for more action!
Our next activity was a drive around a track with one of the new cars like
6series coupe and grand coupe
First I went to check the M135i with new 8speed gearbox
Well I must to say that its a brilliant little car which handles very well but as we all followed the instructor in a car in front of us we couldn't really push hard cause this was more about a driving experience with normal traffic and speeds just like you would get on some A roads or motorways
After 4 laps we get back to pits and swap the cars!
This time I went for a brand new M235i with manual box and this was even better then the M135i I like it a lot and I was even thinking about selling my M3 and get one of those
When I check the odometer there was only 600miles on clock which made me giggle
Anyway after few laps in it we head back to pits for another car change and this time I get myself in to M5 with DCT
Wow!Just wow! Its epic! Interior gearbox sound and performance its absolutely stunning!
I did went for sport mode but wasn't brave enough to put it in M mode lol and whats even better is that it had only 5450 miles on clock
So again after few laps we went back to pits for yet again car change
This time I went for 6 Grand Coupe in 50i M Sport trim
It was good but you could feel the weight of the car going through corners and the engine sounds rather nice but a bit odd for me don't know why...
Now pictures time
Walking around the pits there was few more cars that we could jump in and take a closer look
Once we all done our drive we went for the last activity of the day which was a handling course in M135i manual and 435d x-drive
This was to show us how the traction control works and I must to say that M135i is absolutely brilliant and was better then the 4 series which felt to heavy and big around the slalom and tight course though
That was the last of the activities and we all head back to the main building for a tea and snacks
There was the prize giving but I didn't win anything so bollocks to them!
I must to say that it was epic! cars people and the weather was brilliant and I wasn't even bothered about my 230miles journey back home! if you ask me it was money well spend so if you want to get on one of those Driving Experience Days there is more in september around Oulton Park and Brands Hatch!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures and short review on cars
All those pictures were taken by professional photographer and I still have few more pictures and movies from my iPhone so will upload them later
