oil change question

    oil change question

    hi i noticed on changing oil and filter in the guides you replace filter before drainin old oil? also there is a little round rubber ring in filter kit wats this used for? i know the big rubber ring goes round the cap of cannistor

    The little rubber ring goes on the end of the oil filter housing tube, depending on the model of BMW there maybe a tiny o ring, then another size up also....both these go on the end. You should also have gotten a new copper sump bung washer.

    To be honest I have always pulled the dipstick up but not out, dropped the oil the removed the oil filter. Less oil in filter housing means less messy

    cheers will give it a go if it stops raining and i can find somewhere sellin 36mm socket or spanner

    I use a large adjustable spanner on mine,
    warm up engine,dipstick out,drain oil, remove old filter, let it drain for 1/2 hour or so
    new filter in, new oil in
