Has anybody used this company and had to claim?
My story goes like this
I have had my BMW for over a year now, i bought it with 50,000 miles on its E60 540i m sport 4l V8.
Its a great car looks amazing and runs even better but over last 8 or 9 months the car has started burning oil at quite a considerable rate seen as its only used prob 3 days of the week max.I have been getting quite a lot of smoke out of the exhaust, this only happens when say when you are sat in abit of traffic at idle for a few mins, then when you put your foot down you get a cloud of very light blue/grey smoke i presume it is light because its new oil and it isnt getting chance to get dirty. So i have been to 4 ind bmw specialists 1 garage somebody who i know and have spoke to my main BMW dealer in Manchester.
So my mate with his garage says its a breather pipe thats blocked,he has done one before on a 540i, its a pipe on the back of the crank case.....ok but then i went to BMW main dealer for the partthere blow up diagram shows there isnt one listed for my car it only has one on the front of the engine listed as crank case breather, so bought it anyway for £30 fitted in two mins easy, not solved the problem.
Speak to my mate who works at main BMW dealer in Manchester he speaks to head mtec machanic he says valve stem seals which is what one of the ind BMW places said. he said get it to main BMW dealer for diagnosis at cost of £130. not done that yet.Main dealer quote my mate thinks is around £3000 to £3500 for valve stem seals to be done.
So another ind BMW specialist now,i tell him my problems and all i have been told, and when i mention valve stem seals he says "naaaaa i havnt done them since the late 90s and they where on E30 and the odd E36 i wouldnt think its that" Little bit of hope comes my way maybe im not going to be 3k lighter, but then continues to say not a clue i would get it to your main dealer. Great!
So then the last ind BMW specialist i took it to who was a great bloke looked at it on a sat but couldnt find anything out about this engine because nobody was on parts at main dealer. So he thinks its a breating issue not valve stem seals, he said it would smoke on start up if they had gone as the oil runs past the seals when the car is off so when its started it gets burnt and out through the exhaust system which it dont, he also said the engine in my car is a newer engine and it dosnt have this breather on the back of the crank case like my mate said was on the one he did as it was a older model E60 he said the rocker covers are differant colour silver or black i cant remember, this would also explain the blow up diagram at the main BMW dealer parts the only breather was at the front and nothing at the back of the crank case for my chassie number. He also said what makes him think its a breather problem is the engine s getting no air, if you pull the dipstic out when running the is so much naggative crankcase preasure it whissles when you take the dipstick out and if you put your finger over the hole it wants to suck it in. I know german V8s do run a little bit of naggative crankcase preasue but not that much that it whistles when you take the dipstick out. So i havnt got back in touch with this guy yet to see if he can find anything else out.
So now you know everything thats happened and im no further on in finding out im thinking just take it to the main BMW dealer and get it sorted, but i had an idea instead of paying £3500 to fix it should i go for one of these warranty things, i have had a quote for £500 the guy on the phone said everything is covered from day 1, so i asked if he could send out paperwork before i say yes to it as these companys have a history of trying to get out of paying. so i got all the paperwork the other day........what a joke there's masses of it and reading it is a trauma in itself, i havn't got a clue if im covered. So what do you think i should do? And has anybody used this company before?
Oh and forgot to mention the car still runs a dreamnot sloppy in any shape or form you can stand a pound coin on the engine with it running.Theres a test for ya.Also no warning lights or anything.
