4k is a fair bit for a non facelift Andy, the 330's have fallen sharply lately.

    My 51 plate 330Ci was 270 a year tax.
It was a really nice car, a very good daily driver, I got circa 30mpg off the motorway and upto 38mpg on.
Its very easy to drive fast in it, before you know it your up over a ton if you're going for it.
I don't think I got the most out of mine at all, as the clutch was slipping and you have to get up there in the revs for it to come alive(which coming from a diesel I didn't do much).
If you've got kids then you want to be careful of the door seals as when people climb in the back they can catch and damage it, very expensive from a dealer.
As you know Andy, check the front wings for rust, also I would have a look at the rear subframe, mine was pretty rusty.

Edit: Just had a look at that one you linked, and its a vert

That grey(do you know the BMW name?) have been my favourite BMW colour for a while now, love it.

That car looks very sexy, I would be temped myself if it was a manual!

I've had mine for 3.5 years/ 38k miles it's upto 92k now - been very happy with it and maintained the fbmsh simply because they are competitive for cars over 4 years old.

Mine's silver and auto - would have fancied a red one I think it's the best colour.

The 3 litre coupled with the 5 speed auto box = very civilised driving. Sports mode or semi auto shifting if you want more engagement.

Make sure the seats are in good nick as with wheels, door rubbers, front and back arches, bushes most will have had bush replacements as has mine. Interior cube trim catches rings so check. I've refurbed my wheels twice mainly for colour change.

It's still tight and you have no worries driving it hard or for long distances - I've taken it away to south of france once or twice each year plus a few german/ scottish roadtrips.

I expect to have to pay out for front wings over the next 18 months based on what I've read, plus auto box fluid change and maybe an inspection of the radiator/ poss replacement if bowed and a possible replacement of hoses although they look okay at the moment. I also expect to change rear discs and pads soon. Fronts already done at BMW. Front discs can warp when worn. The diff oil has needed to be topped up aswell but you can visually inspect for signs of leakage.

I would expect a fair amount of paperwork/ bills if it's been looked after - I would consider an owner serviced car if receipts and owners ability checked out.

I paid 6k for mine and would hope it's worth 3.5k now but it's a keeper and will need money spent if I want to keep it. Think we pay 240 a year for road tax.

Oh and tyres the e46 will tramline something rotten on tyres it doesn't like. It's currently on continental sport contact 3's and no tramling at all.

The factory xenons are cool as are heated seats I would have liked sound upgrade and sat nav but the first owner must have been tight.
