    Engine Conversion

    Good afternoon people..
I seem to have a bug, that needs attention, I can not get enough of playing with BMW's I have an E46 but seem to be at the point of looking for problems to fix. So I'm going to buy an E30 possibly a 316 (cheap) and convert it. Im not sure on how I'm fixed on what engines I can then put in it. I know this is not an original idea and been done many times but for me its a first and i would find some pointers very helpful. What i dont want is to end up with is scrap yard in the garden so i want to get this right.. Thanks people

e36 conversion would be the most economic to do buy the whole car and you can sell what you dont need
but most important you will have all the bits for the conversion
pre 95 e36 would help to as you will not have to deal with EWS

Hi mate! The best project if you really want to do a good one would be a e30 v8 but whatever you do try not to do a standard conversion. For example don't buy a e36 316 and put a 2.8 in there is no point as you could buy a 328 for cheap anyway!

A good conversion with lots of help and know how about the net is a e30 24v conversion! So many how to's and people in the know for that. So you buy a cheap e30 316 with the best body you can and buy a cheap e36 325/328 that's had a rear end shunt then you have EVERYTHING for the conversion right there pretty much all you would need I'd the sump of a e34! Sorted please do it I love a good conversion project

After Seeing Gems 525d engine transplant at Santa Pod I'd do a derv next, the torque has got to make it quick and it'd suprise a lot of people, be good on fuel too.

Hello and welcome to the forum..... I would buy an m20 (325) and bolt a turbo charger on it.............. No, wait - that's what I am doing.!

The 24v conversion is easy and very popular, for all the information on E30's and engine conversions you have to have a little read on "the zone".... E30 Zone

E30's are the best, great fun and "easy" to work on - but be careful, they really know how to rust.....

If I had the funds and time, I would love to do a project, BUT, why not do something different? personally I think e30's have been done to death, especially with e36 convertions, and v8's too. why not bide your time and try to find something rarer and do something new?
Not critisising your idea, but by the sound of it you have the funds and ability to do something fresh.

As E30's are getting rarer by the day, any way to save one is a good thing.......

Fun especially in the wet even my old 316i was leathal in the wet. Fuel tanks on these are a real problem when they leak and they do.
If it were me i look at a e36 coupe but im biased hi hi
