Tie rod help - brand recommendations.

So I had my tracking done the other week and the guy recommended that I have my tie rods replaced as they had seized which resulted in them having to use the propane torch to adjust them

My question is, could I get away with using cheap tie rods for 40 rather than shell out 100 for Meyle types?

I'm currently pricing up for replacing the entire suspension/steering system as my car is approaching 100k and most of the parts are original. The shocks, mounts, links, etc, are Meyle where possible but I wanted to see if I can cut the costs a little as I'm upto 600 already

Well, yeah, you can fit cheaper ones. Chances are they won't last though, so you'll be replacing them again. I put Lemforders on mine when I swapped the rack recently. no complaints.

Just had a look on ECP and they're about the same price as Meyle. Where did you get your's from?

What symptoms are you getting, if any, to make you want to swap everything out? Or is it just preventative maintenance?

It's mostly preventative maintenance. I'm planning on upgrading to an E92 but they're still out of my price range so I'm going to invest a bit of cash into my current car to make sure it runs sound for a few more years. I only do 4-5k miles a year at the most but as you said above, if I fit cheap parts then I'll just be replacing them again in the near future. I've made that mistake before.

I am however seeing a few signs of wear like slightly vague steering and a few knocks/squeaks.

    BONUS - TEST31 still works

In that case, if it was me, I'd only replace the bits that need doing or that are starting to wear out, instead of going mad and doing everything. Vague steering will be partly your tie rod ends and partly your outer ball joints, if mine was anything to go by. If you can get it up in the air and identify what parts are wearing/worn out, you'll save yourself a lot of money (to put towards your new car )

Yer I agree. In that case I'll get the Meyle control arms and Lemforder tie rods for now which will set me back around 275 and should solve my steering/knocking issues.

If I salvage parts from my current suspension then it'll only cost around 240 for new Meyle shocks and mounts all round

    Thanks for the help
