walked around the BMW showroom today pretty underwhelming experience to be honest

Not sure if it's me or not but picked some new number plates up for my car from Coopers in Chelmsford (my local dealer) bought some other bits from Harry Fairburn site partner and saved 15%

I had a walk around the new cars in the showroom - Z4 28i - with a 2 litre engine probably my favourite but just seemed a bit like a 1:1.5 scale model everything a bit tight and small, not much head room, tidy enough interior but a little tight for room.

Sat in a 1 series convert - got out pretty quickly as it just felt like a small car without a roof - sorry any owners.

Sat in a 320d coupe - this felt okay but quite like my e46 in many respects just newer.

The M6 was locked but I didn't really feel that inclined to see if they could open it up for me - looked like a big lazy car built for old men.

Just felt a little stale in there nothing that really stood out as uber desirable - anyone else feel like this about BMW at the moment?

I dunno mate, the Laguna Seca E92 that was in my local dealer was damn nice..........................

...............scary part was the E92 M3s that were "second user" with warranty that I could actually afford, and that's the scary bit.

Nothing like that where I went - I could have done with "touching" some of those. Plus there was nothing with any risque colour combos all very sensible.

    Maybe just an off day

As much as I like the Laguna Seca on an E92 @ £53K I have to say I would always choose a Gun metal metallic grey second hand @ £22K.

You can go quicker when people can't see or hear or see you coming (As M3 Tim has found out lol)

I know you could spend more on a brand new average mobile but the moths are keeping my wallet in my pocket. They'll be a bargain when 10+ years old

Strange thing when I went in a BMW dealership a few weeks ago, I sat in the Z4. I felt that it wasn't for me. It's a bit small inside with a large bonnet. I sat in the new 1er hatchback, it felt like I was sitting in a cheaper car (equipment was bare and didn't have that luxury feeling of a BMW maybe that's why it was £179 per month). The only cars that felt right was the F9X 3er coupé (there was no saloon version) and believe it or not, the BMW X3. I loved the X3, but felt a bit high. I'd actually prefer one to the X5. The X1 was also good and thought I'd like it, but had the same problem as the 1er. The new 7er just felt like a limo. I wouldn't drive one, but would like to be driven in one. I need to sit in the new 3er and 5er now. I absolutely love the interior of the new 3er.

on paper I should love these cars but in many cases they are just plain ordinary or badly designed as with the z4. Maybe the z4 really is aimed at women or small asians?

4 pot Z4: what a fucking joke. A 'vert should be a visceral experience - the feel, the sound. Not a force fed 4 pot. It's like buying a convertible 330d... Why??? The original Z4 coupes were also much better looking. The soft top Z4s looked wank and the new folding metal jobbies are an improvement but I'd never buy a canvas roof anyway.

The only new BMWs which properly excite me are the X5, X6 and larger engined 5ers. I'm not convinced about the new 3 yet but can't wait to see an M Sport (or indeed M) in the flesh to make my mind up. The 6 series has had awkward styling ever since its rebirth and I'm not sure they've got it right even now - an SL is a much better looking car. Can't abide the 1's - shitty materials and no space. I'd rather have an A3.

I had the same experiance in my local dealer a while back. Nothing in there made me go wow. They were all just a bit boring and from what i saw nearly everything had an M badge on it and not a single M division car to be found. Afraid BMW are not the cars they used to be.
