Why when the grit has gone it leaves a greasy residue all over the roads? its a HAZARD!!! Surely this should have been thought of and avoided?

    LOL

Erm you have dry spells and get rubber laid down on the road, then you get cold weather and the roads are slick with water on top of the rubber is's likeglass.

Sand and rock salt leaves nothing slippy.

Sand doesn't leave anything slippy? You ever seen a v8 race in Australia when sand blows across the track? It's slippy as fook

That's not even remotely comparable conditions. And yeah sand can behave like little marbles if there is enough but in reality you are talking about it sticking to sticky tyres so they get coated and can't work on the road surface which is completely different. Also it still isn't greasy

And finally, if the sand is thick enough to "lubricate" between tyres and road, it isn't leaving anything slippy, it is the something making it slippy lol

This is a funny thread, when it snowed eveyone complained they weren't gritting enough and gritting early enough.
Complaining about gritting is like complaining about the pain a needle causes when getting vacinated against malaria, "oh no the needle hurt me and because it saved my life I'm still alive to moan about it"

I've just got back from Germany where it was -5c yesterday morning and yet the roads including b roads weren't icy, I did a few tests, braking and accelerating, to get a feel as my instinct told me that there would be ice.

I had to clean some bird shit off of the car in the morning and water just froze when it touched the cars metal so it was cold.

Does anybody know if they use salt over there or another chemical or perhaps road material technology?
