Having ordered a 320i xDrive with the 8 speed sport auto gearbox (first auto i'll have owned) I have a question on it's everyday use, especially as of all the cars I considered the BMW is the only one that doesn't have an eletromechanical parking brake.
When stopped at traffic lights, in queue's etc you are in "drive" then put your foot on the foot brake and the stop/start is activated when you come to a halt. What is the best way to remain static, with the engine remaining off via the stop/start, without having to keep your foot on the foot brake? Do you select "N" or "P" then take your foot off the brake? Do you also have to apply the hand brake first? Or does the 3 series still have a kind of auto hold function so I don't have to keep using the hand brake?
Appreciate this is going to take a little getting used to!
