There's been a fair bit of talk recently about the 4 cylinder engines, i'm looking into the ones mainly found in the e36's 318i, etc.
Why are there so many variations and what are the main differences between them?
Wanda is talking about compound charging a 318i vert, which would be the m43 engine...(?)
I too will soon be looking into turbocharging my wife's 318i estate (only as the head gasket recently went, so it wants a rebuild anyway) which is also the m43 engine.
The 318iS coupe has the m42 engine which has more power, I suppose my question is:
Why does it have more power?
The displacement is the same, they were used in different models in production at the same time, so what are the main physical differences?
Purely the electronic management system?
Strength of internals etc...?
The m44 also has various different incarnations of power output and displacement, so what's different there too?
