Hey guys, i bought a silver E46 00 W 328ci a couple of weeks ago from Bolton. It was advertised on eBay at £700 with it needing radiator, expansion tank and a few little bits. It is registered as a Cat D, got 152k on the clock and did come with a cherished plate. It had one MV2 missing, seat belt were missing, front bumper needed changing, a rear ABS sensor needed replacing and needed some other little bits and bats.
When i got it back, i replaced the radiator and expansion and got it up to temp. It drove fine and nothing was wrong but when i drove it home one night the temp went through the roof and i pulled up and the car had over heated. I flushed the coolant and had another go but the coolant pipes expanded and went solid with residue under the oil cap. Damn car had blown the head gasket!!
So i am in 2 minds at the moment, whether to break the car or repair it. i have advertised the car on eBay twice now and been messed around so its come down to this. If i break the car, it will give me back what i owe but i need to sit on it and i hate breaking cars or if i fix it it will cost me another £400 to get it done on top of everything else.
I have found out in the mean time that the car has been clocked, the mileage at the MOT in 2011 was 151022 an the mileage at 2012 was 150085 so thats another downer!!
The car currently stands me at £1000, as the car cost me £640 including transport, £200 for parts and £120 for road tax. With the head gasket at £400, i would need to put another £300 in to make the car right and with the car worth £1500-£1600 at the very most once all done and running, is it really worth it.
Let me know your thoughts.
