I figured it would be nice to update the community on all things M3. Iíve owned the car just under a month now and have put over 2,500 miles on it. Far more than I would have liked Ė however Iíve had some long work trips all over the country.
Also Iíve just had the car valetted and detailed so have some good pictures to share!
The good news is there have been no nasty surprises I missed when checking it over, every thing works faultlessly with three small exceptions: parking sensors are temperamental, hedgehog needs doing and the trip computer reset button doesnít work. No biggies had the first two on the Clubsport so can sort easy enough not sure about the trip reset button though?
Overall Iím delighted with it, it feels special all the time. I accept itís done a few miles and isnít anywhere near mint but I get real satisfaction from driving it. Itís a tool perfected for getting places quick and using it is a pleasure.
The engine is sweet as a nut very different in character to the 330 it doesnít feel anywhere near as smooth at low revs and isnít faster low end. It is designed to be revved and used and when you do it fucking flies still amazes me how quick it is through second and third.
I havenít really pushed the handling yet as I donít know the car well enough, but itís properly composed. Still has a slight heavy feel to it when youíre really pushing on though, the chassis could be stiffer, but Iím not sure if this would compromise the comfort side too much? Itís a great GT car I cruised over 600 miles this weekend and it was super comfortable. The brakes are okay I havenít cooked them yet, but I think they could do with a bit more sharpness and feel Ė not by any means bad though.
The SMG is a funny one sometimes I love it sometimes it really pisses me off. It is meant for driving hard and when youíre thrashing it itís in its element! Parking and plodding about London though it really isnít. Having said that the auto mode is great for driving in traffic Ė okay it isnít as smooth as a proper auto but itís adequate for urban driving. I think the box adds to the ďspecialĒ feel for me and in sport on the highest setting the way it changes gear is remarkable.
So far so good and long may it continue. Iíll reiterate again anyone whoís toyed with the idea of getting one itís so so worth it.
