Hi. I was thinking about changing my F30 320d for a newer model this year, but now considering some mods instead; it's everything I need and I'd like to avoid paying the difference between trade in and sticker price! Things I want to improve: 1) I have the sports auto model, great gearbox but in comfort mode the throttle is way too soft. Sports mode sharpens the throttle but then you have to stick with the sportier shift pattern; not ideal when on the daily commute! 2) it has a few chips on the paintwork (my commute is 120 mile round trip x3 days a week on the M25) 3) Driving position - no-where near as 'spot on' as my old E90.
I'm considering the Thorney Motorsport 'TMS Connect'; looks to liberate extra power to up the total to 230bhp and an additional 60 lbft - all for £500! Anyone have any experience with this? And then maybe a partial respray; the colour is melbourne red; looks great (like a gorgeous shiny tomato ) after an autoglym session, but the chips draw the eye (on the bonnet at least) and one on the leading edge, just above the headlight, has turned rusty already. Does anyone have any advice on how I can locate a good-quality respray for low-ish £££?
Other than that, I love the car and am excited about making some incremental improvements to it. The quality on F30 is not up to muster in comparison with the E90 (cup holders, interior switches and plastics, boot lid hinges, day-time running lights; even the extent of leather on the door cards is noticeably worse) but I love the extra practicality and the looks. And it's still better than anything else on the market for the price!!
