I drive nothing that special just a 2000e46 318ise. Bought the car a month ago after trading in my 1995 E36 318ise. That car I bought new, rather the company I worked for did and I ended up driving it 175K. they gave me the car as a parting present with 160k on the clock when I retired and it lasted a further 4 years till I sold it.
I find now rather than the usual booking in for services, I am doing the work myself except for the hard to get at underneath jobs. I don't have post lift which would be nice to have.
My new 12 year old car has only 54K on the clock in my opinion its got many years to go to catch up with the E36 milage . I have found to save money, forums can be a huge help and once you know where all the good spare parts vendors are it makes a lot of sense to do it yourself.
Forums are not new to me, I have owned a 356 Porsche since the 60's and over the years the 356 forums have been a great help to me. However the 356 has carbs, distributor, no emission controls, a single key with no key fobs, and only 4 gears
This opening thread is rather long, maybe too long, but us retired old codgers have time to write and sometimes don't know when to stop.
