Like to say hi to the members of this Forum and give a brief introduction.
Bought my first BMW in 1979 collected the car from the factory in Germany and drove it back to London. Fell in love with her while driving back, and in the process collected my first ever ticket and on the spot fine from the Autobahnpolize. Keeping strictly to the running in speed I had passed a sign that was obscured by the car I was passing at the time. Unfortunately the sign was a no overtaking sign due to roadworks ahead.
The green and white vehicle parked ahead had a uniformed gent with a small disc on a stick who waved me down. Upon my immediate I don't speak German a book was produced, the infraction and picture of the sign I had passed was pointed out and the fine appropriate was there in various currencies. Very polite efficient and over in minutes.
I have remained most impressed with the car, the German road system, efficiency and politeness of the police ever since then. Never drove over there again but still have the car.
My BMW 323i is getting a little long in the tooth and sadly showing her age, as am I. I have come here for advice on where to possibly find parts and a fuel consumption problem I am having.
I am dangerous when left alone with tools, have minimal experience with a screwdriver and hammer but willing to try. I have a Haynes manual and have occasionally consulted it mainly for things like tyre pressure, so as you can see not very handy. In these tight times needs must, I am retired so if nothing else have time to fiddle.
