    I had a 16v gte with 204bhp wasn't too bad unless really going for it, spax suspension might of helped though?

    Werent that fast but were okay for the time. Had maybe 120hp but didnt even weigh a ton


    Just a wee update bout the timing belt


    Ive had a look and sent the pics to Kevin yesterday but hes not been online. Im itching to see if my thinking is right about this so here goes..

    Got the top cover off and couldnt see any sticker to say its been done

    I did find 2 marks, like tippex, on the engine tho. I had to start/ stop the engine a few times and eventually got this, marks on the 2 cogs as well





    im not a mechanic but im thinking it wouldnt come out the factory like that and someones marked that to change the belt

    The belt interval is 105000/ 120 months. This has done 120000 and is 12.5 years old so im hoping im right thinking this is surely its second belt?

    What you think guys?

    Sound thinking I reckon mate

    That's a scary change interval isn't it? Seems like ageeeeeees! Or are VW just really cautious (4 years/60k I think on my old VRS)?

    Thats sound then, been convincing myself it had to have been done but wasnt sure if i was missing out some other senario..


    Yeah thats seem like agggges like you said. Was reading that some Volvos are 120000 miles, thats a bit chancy sounding to me. The mrs Golf was something like half that as well


    Couldnt see why it wouldve been serviced every year till 2013 and not had that done so alls good there i think

    Those marks look relatively fresh to me, plus like you say, if someone's bothered to service it so religiously they won't have skipped a belt change.

    Yeah just couldnt see them marking it like that in the factory as well!

    I would think with those marks which look fresh it has had a belt, I use typex as well , it makes looking for the timing marks easier. Do you have the previous owners names/ addresses on the log book, try finding a phone number from the net and contacting them.

    or contact the volvo/indy garages and get them to check their records.
