Ye olde shed money Jag Journal :)

    Hi folks,

Thought i might as well do a thread for this old thing

Was itchin to get something after it didnt go to plan with the black 730. Saying that i think with that car it just needed a new gear selector switch, didnt feel like a good car tho anyway.

So ive always wondered about the old Jags and was chuffed when i checked them out and saw how cheaply they were selling for.

Been doing some reading about them for a few weeks and thought a six cylinder would be the best/ safest bet so picked this one up for less than 600

Its a 1995 x300 Sovereign, 3.2 litre straight six auto with 140000 on it

Last owner was a pensioner whod kept in 9 years and looking after it was getting a bit much.

Its only Motd till mid May but its only done 1200 miles since the last one with an advisory about a tyre getting low on tread so im hoping it goes through the next one without much fuss

    Heres some pics

theres a hole in the drivers bolster with duct tape on it you cant see in the pic

was reading about their common probs, this ones got a good few of them!

this rusty arch, seen a lot worse on these

PO had it repaired 9 years ago and it started coming back last year. Hed had it in his garage from Oct to April every year so thats maybe helped keep it a bay, its only done 22000 miles in that time

    sagging headlining

clock doesnt work, needs a new gear shifter as well

all the electrics work perfect, except that clock, including the seats/ front headrests and electric steering adjust

its decent under here as well

    wee toolkit

engine runs sweet and it pulls through the gears strong and steady

Its got the same geabox in it as the e32 and its great for cruising with not much revs

its not so good on the bends tho, you got to ease into them or else youd better hang on for dear life!

Yeah theres a good bit of body roll but its got good grip, doesnt handle as well as an e32. The e32 handles better than youd think for its size and weight

So im gonna put it on a sorn tomorrow and get my e32 back on the go, dont know how long itll be till i get this back on the go but theres no hurry

Insurance is cheap for this as well and i can split the miles between this and the e32, probably 5000 a year between the 2

First thing i think ill look at is the rear arch and then do a service on it, probably in a couple of months

So thats the old shed money Jag so well see how it goes. Like any old car it could all go wrong in no time but this old machine can take the miles, and a bit of punishment

its got the multichanger for the sounds as well tho thats a bit random working right enough, electric aerial still works tho

Im gonna get my shadowline tape on some of that chrome round the doors etc. Im not a young man myself but it just looks a bit too much and oldmanish for me. Same with the Sovereign badge, just seems old so im gonna swap it for an XJ6 one

    Thanks for looking guys

Hey dude! Looks like a clean one rather than a junk yard dog, where most big cars end up a some point. I nearly, nearly.... nearly got an XJR not so long ago but then my 635 turned up. I figured the XJR would be a disappointing substitute for a Jaguar that is on my list of 'cars to own before I go blind in my old age and have my licence revoked', which is the S3 XJ12.

There's still a few about so there is no rush.

You should do something with it, something unique... rat it or something.
Don't know what happened to the 7 series? Have to catch up as I haven't been around lately, work is demanding all my good bits at the moment... Best of luck with it.
