    My Calibra SE4 (Baby #1)

Been directed here to post (some) of the details of my other interest, namely my 1995 Vauxhall Calibra SE4.

Now, I'm very new to BMW but I know 90's Vauxhalls like the back of my hand so when I semi-retired my 1995 Calibra SE4 a few years back I totally went to town on her & did all the things I couldn't afford as a teenager when I lusted for one (passed my test in 1994). These will be a bit random but I hope you get the gist of it as these include the engine swap (& full looms swap) in 2011 when she made the jump from a baby 2.0 8v to a 2.5 V6.

Here she is. Blood, sweat, tears & all!

I'm the skinhead in the black jacket by the way lol!

car looks good, the only thing I would have done different is the heater surround colour. I would have done the light switch, heater control and glovebox so that it all stayed on one level like the bmw style.

That's one big lump going in thanks for sharing Dan,
I guess the dozen or so pics only scratch at the surface.
Glad you identified yourself, for a minute I thought the Mitchell brothers were hanging over that engine bay

The Mitchell brothers lol! Yeah, I've heard that more than once but being born & bred in Croydon I apparantly actually sound like Phil too!

Yes, the pics there are just the tip of the iceberg, the "getting it started" story is comical but it all works now.

I have to be honest, the 90's modification styling isn't to my taste, although I guess it is in keeping with the era of the car, and I probably would have liked it back then. Not that my taste matters a fuck what you do with your own car, it would be boring if we all liked the same things.

The work looks to have been done to a high standard, which is important.

Do you have any more plans for it? Turbo? Supercharger? Nitrous? completely over the top sound system?

Not going for any silly sound system, been there before but not really my thing anymore.

Now I've got the car capable of running a V6 (that was the biggest obstacle due to need to swap all of the car looms as well as the engine loom), the next step is a 3.2 V6 (Z32SE from a Vectra C GSi) with an F28 6 speed box from a Calibra turbo.

The 2.5 is quite pokey & surprises a lot of other motorists on the road when I come screaming past them but the peak torque doesn't really develop until well into the 4k rpm range so you have to rev the nuts off them to get to the power. The standard V6 F25 gearbox is very long geared too (110 in 3rd, tried & proven lol) so can be annoying.

The 3.2 hits peak torque at around 2k rpm, couple that with the closer geared F28 box & it's full of win!

3.2 will go straight in with just a few ancillaries to use from the 2.5 but the engine needs to be spaced over by 23mm to allow the F28 gearbox to be used. I've got most of the stuff required for that already but that's a project for next year, I'm having a year off ripping cars apart as if you ain't careful they can consume your life.

Would you be using the reftop flywheel to reduce the weihht and spool up better? Iirc it weighs just 5.5kg. Only down side is the jurkey slow moving in traffic.

Ps you could always stick the 3l inlet cams in the 2.5 a d get a good boost of power here and now.it would eseneially be a vecta gsi lump eith292bhp instead of tbe 170 vectra/cavalier lump.

Will have to (flat type as opposed to pot type if I can) as the mahoosive V6 flywheel wouldn't fit an F28!
