I bought a new low profile jack. I've wanted one for ages.
However, the contact point is a metal "thing" that will damage my car. Thus, I needed to find a solution...
Answer? A hockey puck. It's the perfect material- hard enough not to deform under heavy load yet pliable and forgiving enough to mold into shape and fit snuggly in the jacking point.
Cheapest place seems to be from here. Ice Hockey Puck - Black | eBay
I bought a few extra to fit into my newly bought ratchet stands also (but I haven't shaped them, just yet).
A quick size up...
It appears dodo juice has more than one use. A stencil
The OEM jack is designed such that the white plastic contact point fits nicely underneath the car at the jacking points. Hence, I'd need to cut one end of the puck to replicate the protruding shape.
At first I used a hack saw but this seemed to take far too long and was very labour intensive. I found a chisel and hammer was very quick and easy.
One side all done
Next, was the other side which will sit snuggly on the jack contact point
A stanley knife and a bit more chisel action resulted in this...
Quick test fit. Not quite done and looks messy. I actually cleaned it up a lot more but forgot to take pics. Anyway, a quick shot
