Ford C max 2006 1.8 petrol Packed up again!

The Ford had decided to pack up again this morning. The symptoms are Battery light is always on, Hunting for idle when coming to a stop and a high pitched wine from the engine bay. Would i be correct in saying the Altinator is screwed?

Cheers for the reply i thought that was the fault and after a look on google it's going to have to go in the garage as it needs a special tool for fitting so its booked in the morning.

Check its not got a free running pulley clutch. These sieze and cause these issues. If it has siezed or the bearing has collapsed no need for a whole new alternator, just a pulley.
All depends on what ford decided to fit as some do have normal alternators.....

It is if you know what you are looking for, generally the free wheeling(in one direction only) one has a plastic cover over the end of the pulley. If the cover is missing then you will be able to see splines in the centre of the pulley.

If it looks like a normal pulley then yes it is a normal pulley.

As the others have said, some have that ratchet on the end, looks like a plastic nose.
You can buy them separately from the alternator, but they are still pretty pricey :(
